Inductive adders for replacing thyratron based modulators at CERN / Barnes, M J (CERN) ; Ducimetiere, L (CERN) ; Holma, J (CERN) ; Kramer, T (CERN) ; Fowler, A (CERN)
Line-type modulators, for example pulse forming lines and pulse forming networks, which use thyratron switches, are currently used in many pulse power systems at CERN. Solid-state modulators implemented with inductive adder technology could replace thyratron based designs in many applications and potentially improve dynamic range, maintainability and reliability of the systems. The Second Beam-Line and Experimental Area at n_TOF: A New Opportunity for Challenging Neutron Measurements at CERN / Colonna, Nicola (INFN, Bari) ; Gunsing, Frank (Saclay) ; Chiaveri, Enrico (CERN)
Since 2001, a wealth of neutron capture and neutron-induced fission reactions has been measured at n_TOF, providing an important contribution to a wide variety of research fields. The experimental activity is driven mostly by two motivations: on the one hand, capture reactions are studied with the aim of improving current models of stellar nucleosynthesis of heavy elements. Cryogenic-temperature profiling of high-power superconducting lines using local and distributed optical-fiber sensors / Chiuchiolo, Antonella (Sannio U. ; CERN) ; Palmieri, Luca (Sannio U. ; Padua U.) ; Consales, Marco (Sannio U.) ; Giordano, Michele (CNR, Portici) ; Borriello, Anna (CNR, Portici) ; Bajas, Hugues (CERN) ; Galtarossa, Andrea (Padua U.) ; Bajko, Marta (CERN) ; Cusano, Andrea (Sannio U.)
This contribution presents distributed and multi-point fiber-optic monitoring of cryogenic temperatures along a superconducting power transmission line down to 30 K and over 20 m distance. Multi-point measurements were conducted using fiber Bragg gratings sensors coated with two different functional overlays (epoxy and PMMA) demonstrating cryogenic operation in the range 300 – 4.2 K. Extending the Nonlinear-Beam-Dynamics Concept of 1D Fixed Points to 2D Fixed Lines / Franchetti, G. (GSI) ; Schmidt, F. (CERN)
The origin of nonlinear dynamics traces back to the study of the dynamics of planets with the seminal work of Poincaré at the end of the nineteenth century: Les Méthodes Nouvelles de la Mécanique Céleste, Vols. 1–3 (Gauthier Villars, Paris, 1899). [...]

The new vertical neutron beam line at the CERN n_TOF facility design and outlook on the performance / Weiß, C (CERN) ; Chiaveri, E (CERN) ; Girod, S (CERN) ; Vlachoudis, V (CERN) ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Barros, S (ITN, Lisbon) ; Bergström, I (CERN) ; Berthoumieux, E (IRFU, Saclay) ; Calviani, M (CERN) ; Guerrero, C (Seville U. ; CERN) et al. /n_TOF
At the neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF at CERN a new vertical beam line was constructed in 2014, in order to extend the experimental possibilities at this facility to an even wider range of challenging cross-section measurements of interest in astrophysics, nuclear technology and medical physics. The design of the beam line and the experimental hall was based on FLUKA Monte Carlo simulations, aiming at maximizing the neutron flux, reducing the beam halo and minimizing the background from neutrons interacting with the collimator or back-scattered in the beam dump..

Design Guidelines for the Injector Complex of the FCC-ee / Papaphilippou, Y. (CERN) ; Zimmermann, F. (CERN) ; Oide, K. (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Aiba, M. (PSI) ; Rinolfi, L. (ESI, Archamps) ; Shwartz, D. (Novosibirsk, IYF)
The design of the injector of the FCC-ee, a high-luminosity e+/e- circular collider of 100 km in the Geneva area, is driven by the required particle flux for ring filling or top-up and for a variety of energies, from 45.6 to 175 GeV. In this paper, a set of parameters of the injector complex is presented, fulfilling the collider needs for all running scenarios. [...]

In order to test CPT symmetry between antihydrogen and its counterpart hydrogen, the ASACUSA collaboration plans to perform high precision microwave spectroscopy of ground-state hyperfine splitting of antihydrogen atom in-flight. We have developed an apparatus (“cusp trap”) which consists of a superconducting anti-Helmholtz coil and multiple ring electrodes. [...]
