Literature in focus: Behind the scenes in physics

Wednesday 17th September 2003

16:00 - Central Library

Professor Martinus Veltman, Nobel laureate and well-known personality at CERN, had his book «Facts and mysteries in elementary particle physics» published a few months ago by World Scientific.
This book offers an interesting insight into some of the greatest discoveries in 20th century physics as seen by an eye-witness and participant.
It also contains many thumbnail sketches of particle physicists, including contemporaries as seen through the eyes of the author. Illustrated with pictures, these candid sketches present rare, perceptive views of the characters that populate the field.
On Wednesday 17th September, at 16.00 in the Central Library Reading Room, Professor Veltman will meet his readers and talk about the conception of the project, and the writing process when the book is intended to appeal to a wide audience such as students, lay people and anyone interested in the world of particles.

Tea will be served.
