Physicist makes muon chamber sing

This Monitored Drift Tube detector, consisting of argon-CO2-filled aluminium tubes with a wire down the centre of each, will track muons in ATLAS; Tiecke used a single tube from one of these detectors to create the pipes in his organ.

Former NIKHEF physicist Henk Tiecke plays his homemade barrel organ at an event at NIKHEF celebrating the first shipment of completed muon chambers to CERN in October 2005.
