Three European ministers visit CERN

There have been three ministerial visits to CERN this month.

Gediminas Kirkilas, Prime Minister of Lithuania, and Robert Aymar, CERN’s Director-General.

On 2 July, the Prime Minister of Lithuania, Gediminas Kirkilas, was welcomed by CERN’s Director-General, Robert Aymar, before being taken on a visit of the ATLAS cavern at Point 2 and the LHC tunnel.

Ten days later, Poland’s Minister for Science and Higher Education, Michal Sewerynski, visited the CMS cavern and assembly hall and the LHC tunnel. He was also given a tour of the LHC Computer Centre and the CERN Control Centre. His visit was rounded off with a presentation of Polish companies involved in CERN’s activities, followed by a meeting with Polish personnel working at CERN.

On 13 July, Ján Mikolaj, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education of the Slovak Republic, visited the ALICE experiment and the LHC Computer Centre. After lunch, he was taken on a visit of the ATLAS experiment and the LHC tunnel at Point 1. He was also given a presentation of the CLIC facilities. His visit concluded with a meeting with Slovak personnel working at CERN.
