General mitigation techniques for coherent beam instabilities in particle accelerators / Métral, Elias (CERN)
An important number of coherent beam instability mechanisms can be observed in a particle accelerator, depending if the latter is linear or circular, operated at low, medium or high energy, with a small or a huge amount of turns (for circular machines), close to transition energy or not (below or above), with only one bunch or many bunches, with counter-rotating beams (such as in colliders) or not, if the beam is positively or negatively charged, if one is interested in the longitudinal plane or in the transverse plane, in the presence of linear coupling between the transverse planes or not, in the presence of nonlinearities or not, in the presence of noise or not, etc. Building a realistic impedance model of a machine is a necessary step to be able to evaluate the machine performance limitations, identify the main contributors in case an impedance reduction is required, and study the interaction with other mechanisms such as optics (linear and nonlinear), RF gymnastics, transverse damper, noise, space charge, electron cloud, and beam–beam (in a collider). Chapter 3: Design of the East Area facility after renovation / Bernhard, Johannes Benedikt (CERN) ; Dogru, G (CERN) ; Evrard, S (CERN) ; Froeschl, Robert (CERN) ; Harrouch, E (CERN) ; Lazzaroni, M (CERN)
The PS primary proton beam is slowly extracted at 24 GeV/c towards the East Area with the help of the third- order resonance technique over a typical spill length of 350 to 450 ns within 2.4 s cycles. The number of East Area extractions is usually around five to six per overall PS super-cycle of typically 40 s and depends on both users and schedule constraints, respectively. [...]

LHC procedure: excite 3 pilot bunches with AC-dipoles / Malina, Lukas ; Tomas Garcia, Rogelio (CERN)
This note summarises the pre-requisites and steps of optics measurement using AC-dipoles to excite three pilot bunches at beam energy above 4 TeV instead of a single bunch allowed previously for machine protection restrictions..

Synchrotron radiation (SR) originated at superconducting bending magnets is known to be at the origin of several beam detrimental effects related to vacuum instabilities. One of the major challenges in the design of the vacuum beam pipes of high-energy hadron colliders is the SR coping strategy. [...]
