All grown-up; 18 years of LHC@home / Cameron, David (Oslo U.) ; Field, Laurence (CERN) ; Van der Veken, Frederik (CERN) ; Høimyr, Nils (CERN) ; Di Croce, Davide (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Gaillard, Melissa (CERN) ; Masullo, Germano (CERN) ; Noble, Cath (CERN) ; Reguero, Ignacio (CERN) ; Reid, Ivan (Brunei U., Darussalam) et al.
LHC@home was launched as a BOINC project in 2004 as an outreach project for CERN’s 50 years anniversary. Initially focused on the accelerator physics simulation code SixTrack, the project was expanded in 2011 to run other physics simulation codes on Linux thanks to virtualisation. [...]

Surface-based GPU-friendly geometry modeling for detector simulation / Apostolakis, John (CERN) ; Cvijetic, Dusan (LPHE, Lausanne) ; Cosmo, Gabriele (CERN) ; Gheata, Andrei (CERN) ; Hahnfeld, Jonas (CERN) ; Stan, Eduard-George (Bucharest, IFIN-HH ; Bucharest, Polytechnic Inst.)
In a context where the high-energy physics community strives to enhance software to handle increased data throughput, detector simulation is evolving to take advantage of new performance opportunities. Given the intricacy of particle transport simulation, recent advancements, such as adapting to accelerator hardware, require a significant research and development effort. The feasibility of porting complex particle transport codes to GPUs has been already demonstrated by parallelizing the processing of tracks undergoing electromagnetic interactions. [...]

SND@LHC neutrino results / Ilieva, Simona Ilieva (Naples U. ; INFN, Naples) /SND@LHC Collaboration
The Scattering and Neutrino Detector at the LHC (SND@LHC) is a compact and standalone experiment, which started taking data in the beginning of Run 3 of the LHC. The experiment is designed to perform measurements with neutrinos produced in proton-proton collisions at the LHC in an energy range between 100 GeV–1 TeV and hitherto unexplored pseudo-rapidity region of 7.2 < 𝜂 < 8.4, complementary to all the other experiments at the LHC. Enhancing data integrity and resilience: Extending the CERN backup system with a tape-based backend / Monte, Gianmaria Del (CERN) ; Gonzalez, Hugo Labrador (CERN) ; Rademakers, Fons (CERN) ; Valverde, Roberto (CERN)
The CERN IT Department is responsible for ensuring the integrity and security of data stored in the IT Storage Services. General storage backends such as EOS, CERNBox and CephFS are used to store data for a wide range of use cases for all stakeholders at CERN, including experiment project spaces and user home directories. In recent years a backup system, cback, was developed based on the open source backup program restic. Analyzing, Identifying & Alerting on Network Issues / Vasileva, Petya (Michigan U. ; Plovdiv U.) ; Babik, Marian (CERN) ; McKee, Shawn (Michigan U.) ; Vukotic, Ilija (Chicago U.)
The Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG) relies on the network as a critical part of its infrastructure and therefore needs to guarantee effective network usage and prompt detection and resolution of any network issues, including connection failures, congestion, and traffic routing. In this paper, we will describe our ongoing work to proactively analyze, correlate and alert on various network and infrastructure issues. [...]
