Performance of heavy-flavour jet identification in the CMS high-level trigger during LHC Run 3 /CMS Collaboration
The CMS trigger system plays a crucial role during data taking, reducing the large collision rate delivered by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to a few kHz for data storage and subsequent offline analysis. The system aims to maintain high selection efficiency for processes involving jets from heavy-flavour quarks (b and c), which constitute a distinctive signature in many physics analyses. [...]

A machine-learning method for the estimation of the background from jets misidentified as hadronic tau lepton decays /CMS Collaboration
Backgrounds arising from quark- and gluon-initiated jets misidentified as hadronically decaying tau leptons constitute a major experimental challenge for analyses involving tau leptons. The MUFFIN (MUltivariate Fake-Factor INference) approach, a machine-learning-based method for estimating this background directly from data, is presented. [...]

Evidence of the dead-cone effect in bottom quark initiated jets /CMS Collaboration
The suppression of collinear gluon emissions from a massive quark, or the ``dead-cone effect,'' is the primary manifestation of quark mass effects in parton showers. A differential measurement is presented of the emission density of bottom quarks, studied as a function of the angular separation between the emissions from the same emitter. [...]

Search for long-lived heavy neutral leptons in proton-proton collisions with one prompt muon and a secondary vertex from two displaced muons /CMS Collaboration
A search for heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) is performed in final states with three muons, with one originating from the prompt primary interaction vertex and the other two originate from a common displaced vertex. The analysis strategy is optimized for large HNL decay lengths by considering very displaced muons reconstructed only outside the tracker of the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. [...]
