Luc Savary (1949 - 2014)

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our colleague Luc Savary at the age of 64.

Luc joined CERN in 1984 as a guard and often regaled us with stories of that time. He subsequently worked in the parts manufacturing workshop before joining the Mail Office in 2002, where he was taken under the wing of Jacky Dallemagne and learned the ins and outs of the mailing service.

Luc was a native of northern France and returned there from time to time, especially to visit the world-renowned flea market in Lille, which he loved. He didn’t like work to pile up and was quick to start on a job as soon as it arrived, always with determination and efficiency.

Luc was highly self-sufficient and if one of his machines needed repairing he was only too happy to return to the workshop to make a new component. Although unassuming, he had a strong personality and enjoyed telling jokes. He was always there when you needed him and had a heart of gold. The Mail Office team are immensely saddened and bereft by his loss.

We will never forget him and will continue to think of all the happy times we spent with him. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
