Abstract In this Analysis Summary, we present initial results of two complementary studies of the distribution and the effects of material within the CMS Tracker. The first is based on the reconstruction of secondary vertices resulting from photon conversions and nuclear interactions within the material inside the tracking volume; the second is based on the determination of multiple scattering through the material in the tracking volume. Preliminary results obtained with the first $7{\rm TeV}$ data of 2010 are shown. The agreement between data and simulation is typically in the $10\%$ range.
