Evidence for light-by-light scattering in ultraperipheral PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV / d'Enterria, David (CERN) /CMS Collaboration
Evidence for light-by-light (LbL) scattering, $\gamma\gamma\to\gamma\gamma$, in ultraperipheral PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV is reported. LbL scattering processes are selected in events with just two photons produced, with transverse energy $E_T^{\gamma}>2$ GeV, pseudorapidity $\mid\eta^{\gamma}\mid<2.4$; and diphoton invariant mass $m^{\gamma\gamma}>5$~GeV, transverse momentum $p_{T}^{\gamma\gamma} <1$~GeV, and acoplanarity $(1-\Delta \phi^{\gamma\gamma}/\pi)<0.01$. Rare decays at CMS / Piedra Gomez, Jonatan (Cantabria Inst. of Phys.) /CMS Collaboration
Searches for flavour changing neutral currents (FCNC) in events with top quarks and the Z or the Higgs boson are presented by the CMS Collaboration. These searches use proton-proton collision events taken by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Upper limits at $95\%$ confidence level are set on the branching fractions of ${\rm t \to qZ}$ and ${\rm t \to qH}$ decays. [...]

Precision Timing Calorimetry with the upgraded CMS Crystal ECAL / Ciriolo, Vincenzo (INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Milan Bicocca U.) /CMS Collaboration
Particle detectors with a timing resolution of order 10 ps can improve event reconstruction at high luminosity hadron colliders tremendously. The upgrade of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) crystal electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL), which will operate at the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC), will achieve a timing resolution of around 30 ps for high energy photons and electrons. [...]

Observation of $\mathrm{t}\overline{\mathrm{t}}\mathrm{H}$ production at CMS / Salerno, Daniel Nicholas (Zurich U.) /CMS Collaboration
The observation of Higgs boson production in association with a top quark-antiquark pair is reported, based on a combined analysis of proton-proton collision data at center-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=7$, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1, 19.7, and 35.9 fb${}^{-1}$, respectively. The data were collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. [...]

Longevity studies for the CMS-RPC system / Gelmi, Andrea (INFN, Bari ; Bari U.) /CMS Collaboration
In the next decades, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will run at very high luminosity (HL-LHC) 5$\times10^{34}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$, factor five more than the nominal LHC luminosity. During this period the CMS RPC system will be subjected to high background rates which could affect the performance by inducing aging effects. [...]

First measurements of top quark properties with Run-2 data in CMS / Chen, Kai-Feng (Taiwan, Natl. Taiwan U.) /CMS Collaboration
Measurements of top quark properties using data collected by the CMS experiment at 13 TeV are presented. The top quark mass is measured in the lepton+jets channel is consistent with the CMS measurements of Run-1. [...]

RPC Radiation Background Simulations for the High Luminosity Phase in the CMS Experiment / Carpinteyro, Bernardino (Puebla U., Inst. Fis.) /CMS Collaboration
The high luminosity expected from the HL-LHC will be a challenge for the CMS detector. The increased rate of particles coming from the collisions and the radioactivity induced in the detector material could cause significant damage and result in a progressive degradation of its performance. [...]

CMS RPC efficiency measurement using the tag-and-probe method / Goh, Junghwan (Hanyang U.) /CMS Collaboration
We measure the efficiency of CMS Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) detectors in proton-proton collisions at the centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV~using the tag-and-probe method. A muon from a $Z^0$ boson decay is selected as a probe of efficiency measurement, reconstructed using the CMS inner tracker and the rest of CMS muon systems. [...]

The Higgs boson at the LHC: standard model Higgs properties and beyond standard model searches / Magnan, Anne-marie (Imperial Coll., London) /ATLAS and CMS Collaborations
After the discovery of a new particle in 2012 by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, since then identified to be the standard model Higgs boson, a brief review is made of recent results using LHC data taken at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 2016. The SM Higgs boson properties continue to be studied with greater precision, and all production modes and decay channels are probed, including the production in association with top quark, whose $5\sigma$ observation is made possible by the data accumulated so far. New method of out-of-time energy subtraction for the CMS hadronic calorimeter / Lawhorn, Jay Mathew (Caltech) /CMS Collaboration
The CMS hadronic calorimeter employs plastic scintillator active material in the barrel and endcap (HBHE). In Run 2, the LHC operates at 13 TeV center of mass energy with up to 50 simultaneous collisions per bunch crossing (pileup) and a 25 ns bunch spacing. [...]
