Using radioactive isotopes produced at the CERN-ISOLDE facility, the lattice location of the implanted transition metal (TM) ions $^56$Mn, $^59$Fe and $^65$Ni in n-type single-crystalline hexagonal 6H-SiC was studied by means of the emission channeling technique. TM probes on carbon coordinated tetrahedral interstitial sites ($T_C$) and on substitutional silicon sites ($S_{Si,h+k}$) were identified. [...]

We present an ultra sensitive method to quantify the uptake of Hg by dithiocarbamate functionalized magnetic nanoparticles using radioactive tracker spectroscopy. We show a lower limit of detection of about 10 fg L-1, much lower than any other known techniques used to determine the uptake of Hg (about 104 more sensitive), without the need of digesting or processing the sorption agent. The hyperfine structure splitting in the $6p^{3\ 4}S_{3/2} \rightarrow 6p^27s^4P_{1/2}$ transition at 307 nm in atomic $^{208}$Bi was measured with collinear laser spectroscopy at ISOLDE, CERN. The first $2^+$ and $3^-$ states of the doubly magic nucleus $^{132}$Sn are populated via safe Coulomb excitation employing the recently commissioned HIE-ISOLDE accelerator at CERN in conjunction with the highly efficient MINIBALL array.
