Kalman filter-based longitudinal phase-space reconstruction method for hadron machines / Alves, Diogo (CERN) ; Lasocha, Kacper (CERN)
This work proposes a novel longitudinal phase-space reconstruction method for hadron machines. The proposed method is based on a Kalman filter and can therefore provide real-time estimates of the phase-space reconstruction. [...]

Performance and luminosity models for heavy-ion operation at the CERN Large Hadron Collider / Bruce, R. (CERN) ; Jebramcik, M.A. (CERN ; DESY) ; Jowett, J.M. (CERN ; Darmstadt, GSI) ; Mertens, T. (Helmholtz-Zentrum, Berlin) ; Schaumann, M. (CERN)
A good understanding of the luminosity performance in a collider, as well as reliable tools to analyse, predict, and optimise the performance, are of great importance for the successful planning and execution of future runs. In this article, we present two different models for the evolution of the beam parameters and the luminosity in heavy-ion colliders. [...]

Mechanical Behavior of the Shielded HL-LHC Beam Screen during a Magnet Quench / Morrone, Marco (CERN) ; Garion, Cedric (CERN) ; Chiggiato, Paolo (CERN) ; Sacristan De Frutos, Oscar ; Guinchard, Michael (CERN) ; Fiscarelli, Lucio (CERN)
In the framework of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project, larger and shielded beam screens will be installed in the beam pipe of the superconducting magnets of the insertion next to the ATLAS and CMS detectors. The beam screen is a complex assembly that guarantees the vacuum requirements while shielding the magnet cold mass from the induced heat loads. [...]

Direct Digitisation for Position Measurement of Charged Particle Beams: Sampling and Quantisation Effects on Resolution / Degl'Innocenti, Irene
With the technology improvements of Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC), notable in terms of sampling rate and achievable resolution, the direct digitisation of beam pickup signals is of growing interest in the field of particle beam diagnostics for charged particle accelerators [...]

Monte Carlo simulations of light Estimating and comparing the photon rates of different sources at the Beam Gas Curtain monitor's camera / Jens, Noah
This thesis aims at giving a rough estimation of the photon rates and with that the ratio of signal to background radiation on the Beam Gas Curtain's camera, an instrument to measure the concentricity and position of the Hollow Electron lens's electron beam relative to the LHC's proton beam, by imag [...]

Heat Treatment Optimization of Rutherford Cables for a 15-T Nb$_3$Sn Dipole Demonstrator / Barzi, Emanuela (Fermilab) ; Bossert, Marianne (Fermilab) ; Field, Michael (Fermilab) ; Li, Pei (Fermilab) ; Miao, Hanping (Fermilab) ; Parrell, Jeff (Fermilab) ; Turrioni, Daniele (Fermilab) ; Zlobin, Alexander V (Fermilab) /HighFled Magnets Collaboration
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory has been developing a 15-T Nb$_3$Sn dipole demonstrator for a future very high energy pp collider based on an optimized 60-mm aperture four-layer “cos-theta” coil. To increase the magnet efficiency, the coil was graded by using two cables with same 15 mm width and different thicknesses made of two different restacked rod process (RRP) wires. [...]

Test Results of 15 T Nb$_3$Sn Quadrupole Magnet HQ01 with a 120 mm Bore for the LHC Luminosity Upgrade / Caspi, S (LBL, Berkeley) ; Ambrosio, G (Fermilab) ; Anerella, M (Brookhaven) ; Barzi, E (Fermilab) ; Bingham, B (LBL, Berkeley) ; Bossert, R (Fermilab) ; Cheng, D W (LBL, Berkeley) ; Chlachidze, G (Fermilab) ; Dietderich, D R (LBL, Berkeley) ; Felice, H (LBL, Berkeley) et al.
In support of the luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the US LHC Accelerator Research Program (LARP) has been developing a 1-meter long, 120 mm bore Nb$_3$Sn IR quadrupole magnet (HQ). With a short sample gradient of 219 T/m at 1.9 K and a conductor peak field of 15 T, the magnet will operate under higher forces and stored-energy levels than that of any previous LARP magnet models. Alternative Mechanical Structure for LARP Nb$_3$Sn Quadrupoles / Anerella, M (Brookhaven) ; Cozzolino, J (Brookhaven) ; Ambrosio, G (Fermilab) ; Caspi, S (LBL, Berkeley) ; Felice, H (LBL, Berkeley) ; Kovach, P (Brookhaven) ; Lamm, M (Fermilab) ; Sabbi, G (LBL, Berkeley) ; Schmalzle, J (Brookhaven) ; Wanderer, P (Brookhaven)
An alternative structure for the 120 mm Nb$_3$Sn quadrupole magnet presently under development for use in the upgrade for LHC at CERN is presented. The goals of this structure are to build on the existing technology developed in LARP with the LQ and HQ series magnets and to further optimize the features required for operation in the accelerator.
