/ Rey, Stephane (CERN) ; Bastos, Wilker (CERN) ; Caspers, Fritz (CERN) ; Dupuy, Bruno (CERN) ; Gamba, Davide (CERN) ; Höfle, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Louwerse, Reinier (CERN)
Beam transfer function measurements have regularly been used to set-up the adjustable parameters for stochastic cooling systems. We report on the automation of these measurements at CERN that permit efficient set-up of the cooling loops in the anti-proton decelerator (AD) and enables insight into the bandwidth (nominal frequency range of 850 MHz to 1.7 GHz) of the overall system for the longitudinal, horizontal and vertical cooling at the two different beam momenta of 2 GeV/c and 3.5 GeV/c. Advanced simulation techniques for Radiation Protection studies at the Large Hadron Collider
/ Bozzato, Davide (CERN) ; Dyrcz, Patrycja (CERN) ; Froeschl, Robert (CERN) ; Infantino, Angelo (CERN) ; Lorenzon, Tommaso (CERN) ; Tisi, Marco (CERN) ; Vincke, Heinz (CERN)
The paper provides an overview of the radiation protection challenges and the advanced simulation techniques used to study and plan complex interventions in radiation areas at CERN, particularly with regard to the Large Hadron Collider. The operational radiation protection aspects are supported by state of the art simulations by means of the FLUKA Monte Carlo code and estimates obtained via several tools, used within the CERN Radiation Protection group, such as ActiWiz, SESAME, and the Fluence Conversion Coefficients (FCC) method which extend the built-in FLUKA capabilities. / Martinek, Petr (CERN) ; Favia, Giorgia (CERN) ; Barnes, Michael (CERN) ; Diaz Zumel, Miguel (CERN) ; Yue, Sen (CERN) ; Kramer, Thomas (CERN) ; Dutheil, Yann (CERN)
A central part of CERN’s Future Circular collider study (FCC) is a ~91 km circumference lepton collider and its injector complex. This contribution outlines the various kicker systems needed to transport the lepton beams from the electron source up to the collider dump system. [...]

Advancements and Applications of Cooling Simulation Tools: A Focus on Xsuite
/ Kruyt, Peter (CERN ; Frankfurt U.) ; Franchetti, Giuliano (Darmstadt, GSI ; CERN ; Frankfurt U.) ; Gamba, Davide (CERN)
his paper presents recent advancements in cooling simulation tools in Xsuite, which is a new particle accelerator simulation code developed at CERN. An electron cooling module, based on the Parkhomchuk model, has been implemented and benchmarked against Betacool using parameters of the LEIR e-cooler at CERN. [...]

A review of the 2023 antiproton physics run in the CERN antimatter factory

Despite a shorter-than-scheduled physics run due to a hardware problem, the AD/ELENA antiproton complex delivered record beam intensities to the experiments during the 2023 run. This paper reviews the performance of both the CERN Antiproton Decelerator (AD) and the Extra Low ENergy Antiproton (ELENA) decelerator and their associated transfer lines. [...]

Progress & developments of BDSIM
/ Shields, William (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Nevay, Laurence (CERN) ; Boogert, Stewart (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.)
Beam Delivery Simulation (BDSIM), is a C++ program that seamlessly models particle beam transport within an accelerator model that can encompass the beam line, the accelerator's environment, and any accompanying detectors. Based on a suite of high-energy physics software including Geant4, CLHEP, and ROOT, BDSIM transforms the optical design of an accelerator into a detailed 3D model. [...]

The CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) offers slow-extracted, high-intensity proton beams at 400 GeV/c for 3 fixed targets in the CERN North Experimental Area (NA) with a spill length of about 5 seconds. Since first commissioning in the late seventies, the NA has seen a steady increase in users, many of which requiring improved spill quality control. [...]

/ Gorn, Aleksandr (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN) ; Bernhard, Johannes (CERN) ; Nevay, Laurence (CERN) ; Dyks, Luke (Oxford U.) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN)
The High Intensity ECN3 (HI-ECN3) study project aims to increase the intensity of the proton beam delivered to a new experimental facility housed in the ECN3 underground cavern in CERN’s North Area up to the ~4e+13 ppp (protons per pulse) and up to ~4e+19 POT (protons on target) per year. The increase necessitates upgrades of the primary beam transfer lines coming from SPS directly to the new Target Complex upstream of ECN3. [...]
