Emilio Zavattini - 1927-2007

Emilio Zavattini, one of the pioneers of physics at CERN and one of its most engaging personalities, passed away on 9 January.

His keen mind, his passion for research, his humour and the respect and friendship he unfailingly showed his colleagues won him admiration and affection.

Active to the very end, the results of his work in the fields of strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions both at CERN and at other European and U.S. laboratories represent important achievements in particle physics.

Many are the physicists who completed their training in his group and benefited from his continued support and enthusiasm.

We miss him greatly and are grateful for all he gave us over the years.

We offer our condolences and deepest sympathy to his family.
