2016, a year of change!

Being the first Echo of the year, your Staff Council delegates should like to seize this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones, a happy new year!

According to the Staff Association (SA) statutes, an election was held on December 8, 2015 where a new team and President were elected for a term of two years.

Following his election, Alessandro Raimondo, the incoming Staff Association President, thanked the outgoing team and particularly the outgoing President, Michel Goossens, for his work and dedication to CERN and its staff.

2016 signifies the handover to a new management team and also, for the first time, a female Director General whom the Staff Association welcomes and wishes every success in taking up her functions as head of the Organization. It goes without saying that the Association will work with this new team of Directors in a spirit of collaboration, cordial understanding and mutual respect, as it did with previous management. The Staff Association should like to wish the departing Directors every success in their new endeavours, with a special thought for Professor Rolf Heuer, our previous Director-General, for whom the staff convey their respectful thanks.

Finally, 2016 will be the year where we shall see the implementation of changes approved by the CERN Council in December.

The challenges facing the SA in the first semester

Following the five-yearly review and so as to implement the new career structure, all of the related dossiers must be finalised in 2016. These include the definition of all benchmark jobs, the new procedures related to advancement and promotion, Annex A1.

Taking into consideration the potential impact of these decisions on current and future staff, the newly elected Staff Council faces a great challenge in working towards a beneficial outcome. In due course, the Staff Association shall be able to inform you of our progression concerning this domain.

Finally, and to conclude on a note of hope and encouragement, we wish you all, once again, an EXCELLENT YEAR 2016.
