nuSTORM at CERN: Feasibility Study / Long, Kenneth Richard (Imperial College (GB)) The Neutrinos from Stored Muons, nuSTORM, facility has been designed to deliver a definitive neutrino-nucleus scattering programme using beams of $\bar{\nu}_e$ and $\bar{\nu}_\mu$ from the decay of muons confined within a storage ring. The facility is unique, it will be capable of storing $\mu^\pm$ beams with a central momentum of between 1 GeV/c and 6 GeV/c and a momentum spread of 16%. International Advisory Committee Final Statement on the FCC CDRs / Dissertori, Guenther (ETH Zurich (CH)) The International Advisory Committee (IAC) for the Future Circular Collider (FCC) study has followed the activities of the FCC study group during the years 2017-2018, according to its mandate given by the FCC Steering Committee. This mandate consisted in reviewing the scientific and technical progress and considering, for each of the numerous FCC study areas, the questions related to the readiness level required for a Conceptual Design Report (CDR) were asked. Dynamic Testing and Characterization of Advanced Materials in a New Experiment at CERN HiRadMat Facility / Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Accettura, Carlotta (CERN ; Milan Polytechnic) ; Berthomé, Emmanuel (CERN) ; Bianchi, Laura (CERN) ; Bolz, Philipp (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Fichera, Claudio (CERN) ; Frankl, Matthias (CERN) ; Furness, Thomas (Huddersfield U.) ; Gobbi, Giorgia (CERN) et al. An innovative and comprehensive experiment (named “Multimat”) was successfully carried out at CERN HiRadMat facility on 18 different materials relevant for Collimators and Beam Intercepting Devices. Material samples, tested under high intensity proton pulses of 440 GeV/c, exceeding the energy density expected in HL-LHC, ranged from very light carbon foams to tungsten heavy alloys, including novel composites as graphite/carbides and metal/diamond without and with thin-film coatings. Challenges and Status of Tuning Simulations for CLIC Traditional Beam Delivery System / Bodenstein, Ryan (JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Marín, Eduardo (CERN) The beam delivery system (BDS) for the 3 TeV version of the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) has two main design types. One type is referred to as the local scheme, as it is approximately one kilometer shorter and corrects the chromaticity in both planes. LHC/FCC-based muon colliders / Zimmermann, Frank (CERN) In recent years, three schemes for producing low-emittance muon beams have been proposed: (1) positron-electron annihilation above threshold using a positron storage ring with a thin target, (2) laser/FEL-photon back-scattering off high-energy proton beams circulating in the LHC or FCC-hh, (3) the Gamma factory concept where partially stripped heavy ions collide with a laser pulse to directly generate muons. The Gamma factory would also deliver copious amounts of positrons which could in turn be used as source for option (1). LIU Space Charge Studies for the LHC Pre-Accelerators / Schmidt, Frank (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) In 2011 a working group has been started to study performance limitations due to Space Charge (SC) in the four LHC pre-accelerators, LEIR, PSB, PS & SPS, in view of the LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) project. To this end external and in-house simulation tools have been benchmarked for the LIU study cases with the long-term goal of providing a full sequence of tested CERN Space Charge tools. Characterization of Losses and Emittance Growth for Ion Beams on the SPS Injection Plateau / Saá Hernández, Angela (CERN) ; Antoniou, Fanouria (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Huschauer, Alexander (CERN) Losses and transverse emittance growth in the Super Protron Synchrotron (SPS) impose presently the main performance limitation on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) ion injector chain. In this paper we present the measurements performed in 2016 with Pb82+ ions and the analysis to characterize the observations of beam degradation during the long injection plateau.
