ME0 project for the Triple-GEM upgrade of the CMS muon spectrometer: Design, preliminary performance and R&D; perspective / Fiorina, D (INFN, Pavia ; Pavia U.) /CMS Collaboration
In the framework of the HL-LHC project, the upgrade of the CMS Muon System envisages the installation of three new muon stations based on the GEM technology, named as GE1/1, GE2/1 and ME0. The CMS GEM Group has developed a novel construction design of GE1/1 triple-GEM detectors; in particular, a new self-stretching technique has been introduced to mechanically stretch the GEM foils without using spacer grids or glue inside the gas volume. Precision Timing with the CMS MTD Barrel Timing Layer for HL-LHC / Tramontano, R (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome ; CERN) /CMS Collaboration
The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is undergoing an extensive Phase-2 upgrade program to prepare for the challenging conditions of the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). A new timing detector in CMS will measure minimum ionizing particles (MIPs) with a time resolution of 30–40 ps. [...]

3D pixel modules characterization with RD53A readout for ATLAS ITk Upgrade / Vannoli, L (INFN, Genoa) /ATLAS Collaboration
The High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) with its large number of collisions per bunch crossing will present a very challenging environment to the particle detectors. To cope with these conditions, the current inner detector of the ATLAS experiment will be replaced with a new all-silicon Inner Tracker (ITk) during the Phase-II upgrade. [...]

Flow pattern observations and flow pattern map for adiabatic two-phase flow of carbon dioxide in vertical upward and downward direction / Schmid, David (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Verlaat, Bart (CERN) ; Petagna, Paolo (CERN) ; Revellin, Rémi (INSA, Villeurbanne) ; Schiffmann, Jürg (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne)
A test facility to investigate flow pattern transitions of vertical two-phase flow of CO2 has been built within the scope of the high-luminosity detector upgrades at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Adiabatic flow pattern observations for both vertical up- and downflow are recorded with high-speed imaging in tubes of 8 mm inner diameter, with saturation temperatures in the range of −25◦C to +5◦C and mass velocities ranging from 100 kg m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ to 450 kg m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. A database of 431 flow pattern observations in upward and 123 in downward direction has been compiled. [...]

A Revised Version of the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter Link Daughterboard for the HL-LHC / Santurio, Eduardo Valdes (Stockholm U. (main)) ; Silverstein, Samuel (Stockholm U. (main)) ; Bohm, Christian (Stockholm U. (main)) ; Dunne, Katherine (Stockholm U. (main)) ; Lee, Suhyun (Stockholm U. (main)) ; Motzkau, Holger (Stockholm U. (main))
The ATLAS Tile Calorimeter (TileCal) readout link and control daughterboard (DB) is the central on-detector hub of the new TileCal electronics upgrade for the high-luminosity large hadron collider (HL-LHC). The DB, which has undergone gradual redesigns during development, provides the connection between the on- and off-detector electronics via bidirectional fiber-optic links. [...]

Beam-induced surface modifications as a critical source of heat loads in the Large Hadron Collider / Petit, Valentine (CERN) ; Taborelli, Mauro (CERN) ; Zanin, Danilo Andrea (CERN) ; Himmerlich, Marcel (CERN) ; Neupert, Holger (CERN) ; Chiggiato, Paolo (CERN) ; Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN)
Beam-induced heat loads on the cryogenic regions of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) exhibit a wide and unexpected dispersion along the accelerator, with potential impact on the performance of its High-Luminosity upgrade. Studies related the heat load source to the avalanche multiplication of electrons at the surface of the beam vacuum chamber, a phenomenon known as electron could build-up. [...]
