Characterization of ALPIDE Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor for the ALICE Inner Tracking System Upgrade Using the PS Facility at CERN / Kushpil, S (Rez, Nucl. Phys. Inst.) /ALICE
The upgrade of the Inner Tracking System (ITS), which is currently being developed by the ALICE Collaboration, aims at significantly improving the vertex and tracking resolution as well as the readout rate capabilities of the ALICE experiment at CERN. The new ITS detector will be installed during the second long LHC shutdown (LS2) in 2019-2020. [...]

A smart adjustable Inelastic Nuclear Interactions counter based on compact Arduino control system and readout / Iacoangeli, F (INFN, Rome) ; Natochii, A (CERN) ; Gavrikov, Y (St. Petersburg, INP) ; Garattini, M (CERN) ; Cavoto, G (INFN, Rome) ; Addesa, F (INFN, Rome) ; Montesano, S (CERN) ; Scandale, W (CERN)
We realized an embedded system, easy to install and to calibrate, remote controlled and adjustable in order to equip an extracted beam line of a precise Inelastic Nuclear Interactions (INI) counter. The system made up of the Nuclear Interaction Detector (NID) and of a motorized, two arms, translation stage which allows precise positioning and scan of different inelastic nuclear scattering angles. Characterization of the quartz surface quality with $\beta$-source / Natochii, A (Taras Shevchenko U. ; Orsay, LAL) ; Addesa, F (INFN, Rome) ; Bezshyyko, O (Taras Shevchenko U.) ; Breton, D (Orsay, LAL) ; Burmistrov, L (Orsay, LAL) ; Chaumat, V (Orsay, LAL) ; Cavoto, G (INFN, Rome) ; Dubos, S (Orsay, LAL) ; Garattini, M (CERN) ; Gavrikov, Y (CERN) et al.
We present a method for characterizing the quality of the Cherenkov quartz radiator. It is based on the scanning with $^{90}$Sr radioactive source (standard deviation is 1.17 mm) of the radiator surface and measurements of the Cherenkov light rate and amplitude, detected by the PMT attached to the quartz bars. A container-based solution to generate HTCondor Batch Systems on demand exploiting heterogeneous Clouds for data analysis / Spiga, D (INFN, Perugia) ; Antonacci, M (INFN, Bari) ; Boccali, T (INFN, Pisa) ; Ceccanti, A (INFN, CNAF) ; Ciangottini, D (CERN ; INFN, Perugia) ; Donvito, G (INFN, Bari) ; Duma, C (INFN, CNAF) ; Salomoni, D (INFN, CNAF)
This paper describes the Dynamic On Demand Analysis Service (DODAS), an automated system that simplifies the process of provisioning, creating, managing and accessing a pool of heterogeneous computing and storage resources, by generating clusters to run batch systems thereby implementing the "Batch System as a Service" paradigm. DODAS is built on several INDIGO-DataCloud services among which: the PaaS Orchestrator, the Infrastructure Manager, and the Identity and Access Manager are the most important. [...]

All Dots Connected - Preemptive feature search and online indexing for next-generation HEP experiments / Meschi, Emilio (CERN)
Several future HEP experiments under design or construction, including the HL-LHC upgrades, will feature massive high-precision trackers, extreme granularity calorimeters, some based on silicon sensors, and improved muon systems capable of high-efficiency identification. The use of fast optical links enables unprecedented data rates to fully exploit these detectors, however, in many instances, power/cooling infrastructure and the subsequent material budget force the choice of a two-stage data acquisition to limit the readout rates. Measurement of the time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry in $D^0 \rightarrow K^0_{\rm S} K^0_{\rm S}$ decays with LHCb / Tuci, Giulia (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) /LHCb
$CP$ violation in charm has not yet been observed, although measurements of time-integrated $CP$ asymmetries in $D^0 \rightarrow K^+K^-$ and $D^0 \rightarrow \pi^+ \pi^-$ decays have reached a precision of $\mathcal{O}(10^{-3})$. The $D^0 \rightarrow K^0_{\rm S} K^0_{\rm S}$ decay is a promising discovery channel for $CP$ violation in charm. [...]

The LHCb Upgrade II / Neri, Nicola (INFN, Milan) /LHCb
The LHCb Upgrade II will take full advantage of the capabilities of the High Luminosity LHC to search for new phenomena in flavour physics and is foreseen to take data after the long shutdown 4 of the LHC (2030). The full exploitation of the HL-LHC dataset will allow LHCb to perform the ultimate test of the CKM mechanism for quark mixing and $CP$ violation, and unique physics searches for phenomena beyond the Standard Model. Open heavy flavour measurements in $p$Pb collisions at LHCb / Robbe, Patrick (Orsay, LAL) /LHCb
Production of heavy flavour quarks in proton-lead collisions is a powerful tool to understand the properties of matter in heavy ion collisions and to characterize cold nuclear matter effects. New results from the LHCb experiment on themeasurement of the cross-section of open charm mesons in $p$Pb collisions at the LHC at 5 TeV centre-of-mass energy are presented..

Nuclear modification factor and elliptic flow of open heavy flavours in Pb--Pb collisions with ALICE at the LHC / Zhang, Xiaoming (Hua-Zhong Normal U.) /ALICE
The latest results on the nuclear modification factor ($R_{\rm AA}$) and the elliptic flow ($v_{2}$) of D mesons and heavy-flavour hadron decay leptons in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ and $2.76$ TeV measured with ALICE are presented for different centrality classes. The results, obtained in a wide transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) range and in different rapidity regions, provide further information on the properties of the medium.A suppression of a factor of about $3$--$4$ of production yields relative to pp collisions and a positive $v_{2}$ for open heavy-flavour particles are observed in $p_{\rm T}>5$ GeV/$c$ in most central collisions and in intermediate $p_{\rm T}$ region in semi-central collisions, respectively. New physics searches with EW penguins and radiative B decays at LHCb / Marin Benito, Carla (Barcelona U.) /LHCb
Rare $b \rightarrow s(\gamma,\ell\ell)$ decays are flavour changing neutral current processes that are forbidden at the lowest perturbative order in the Standard Model (SM). As a consequence, new particles in SM extensions can significantly affect the branching fractions of these decays and give rise to new sources of CP-violation. [...]
