Performance of LHCb Upgrade I in Run 3 / Oliva, Federica (Edinburgh U.) /LHCb Collaboration
LHCb is a general-purpose forward detector at the LHC which is particularly suited to precision measurements in the beauty and charm sectors. During the LHC Long Shutdown 2 the experiment went through a massive upgrade, namely Upgrade I, to cope with the increase of the instantaneous luminosity $\mathcal{L}=2\times10^{33}$cm$^{−2}$ s$^{-1}$ in Run 3. Collider experiments: the LHC and beyond / Forty, Roger (CERN)
The basic concepts of experimental particle physics at colliders are presented, over four introductory lectures, using examples taken from the highest energy collider in the world: the LHC at CERN. The physics motivation for collider experiments is discussed, followed by an introduction of the accelerators and experiments at CERN and elsewhere. An overview of the principles of particle detection and of the different types of detectors is given. [...]

Characterising the QGP with heavy flavour hadrons with ALICE: state of the art and prospects / Mazzilli, Marianna (Wigner RCP, Budapest) /ALICE Collaboration
A transition to a phase of matter made of deconfined quarks and gluons, called the quark-gluonplasma (QGP), occurs in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. Heavy-flavour quarks (charm andbeauty), because of their large mass, are mainly produced through hard scattering processes, ona shorter timescale with respect to the formation time of the QGP. [...]

Towards sustainable RPC detectors: Exploring CO2-based gas mixtures for CERN LHC experiments / Rigoletti, Gianluca (CERN) ; Guida, Roberto (CERN) ; Mandelli, Beatrice (CERN) ; Verzeroli, Mattia (IP2I, Lyon) ; Juks, Stefania A (U. Paris-Saclay)
Resistive Plate Chamber detectors at the CERN LHC experiments use a Freon-based gas mixture containing R-134a and SF6, high global warming potential greenhouse gases. To minimize greenhouse gas emissions and expenses and optimize RPC performance, it is crucial to research new environmentally friendly gas mixtures. [...]

Statistics and machine learning for high-energy physics / Prosper, Harrison B (Florida State U.)
These lectures introduce some of the main ideas of frequentist and Bayesian statistics as well as supervised machine learning with a focus on the probabilistic interpretation of the latter. The ideas are illustrated using simple examples from particle physics..

Rad-hard readout system for Timepix3 Hybrid Pixel Detectors / Cabrera, Gabriela (CERN) ; Jensen, Steen (CERN) ; Joul, Juri (CERN) ; McLean, Mark (CERN) ; Sandberg, Hampus (CERN) ; Storey, James (CERN)
The Beam Gas Ionisation (BGI) profile monitor, located in the Proton Synchrotron (PS) andSuper Proton Synchrotron (SPS) at CERN, requires a radiation-tolerant readout system to transferdata from the challenging accelerator surroundings to the back-end for processing. The systemneeds to control and acquire data from four Timepix3 Hybrid Pixel Detectors (HPDs) locateddirectly inside the beam pipe, a highly radioactive environment. [...]

Time-dependent modelling of short-term variability in the TeV-blazar VER J0521+211 during the major flare in 2020 / MAGIC Collaboration
The BL Lacertae object VER J0521+211 underwent a notable flaring episode in February 2020. A short-term monitoring campaign, led by the MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov) collaboration, covering a wide energy range from radio to very-high-energy (VHE, 100 GeV < E < 100 TeV) gamma rays was organised to study its evolution. [...]

Characterization of Markarian 421 during its most violent year: Multiwavelength variability and correlations / Abe, K. (Tokai U., Hiratsuka) ; Abe, S. (Tokyo U., ICRR) ; Abhir, J. (Zurich, ETH) ; Abhishek, A. (INFN, Pisa ; Siena U.) ; Acciari, V.A. (Barcelona, IFAE) ; Aguasca-Cabot, A. (Barcelona U.) ; Agudo, I. (Granada U., Theor. Phys. Astrophys.) ; Aniello, T. (INAF, Rome) ; Ansoldi, S. (Udine U. ; INFN, Trieste ; ICRA, Rome) ; Antonelli, L.A. (INAF, Rome) et al.
Mrk 421 was in its most active state around early 2010, which led to the highest TeV gamma-ray flux ever recorded from any active galactic nuclei. We aim to characterize the multiwavelength behavior during this exceptional year for Mrk 421, and evaluate whether it is consistent with the picture derived with data from other less exceptional years. Quantum error mitigation for Fourier moment computation / Kiss, Oriel (CERN ; U. Trento (main)) ; Grossi, Michele (CERN) ; Roggero, Alessandro (U. Trento (main) ; ECT, Trento ; FBK, CIT, Trento ; INFN, Trento)
Hamiltonian moments in Fourier space - expectation values of the unitary evolution operator under a Hamiltonian at different times - provide a convenient framework to understand quantum systems. They offer insights into the energy distribution, higher-order dynamics, response functions, correlation information and physical properties. [...]

Failure analysis and lessons learned on crate and power supply equipment / Bobillier, V (CERN) ; Edvardsen, J (CERN) ; Mico, S (CERN) ; Pinzoni, C (CERN) ; Smaniotto, B (CERN)
For nearly 20 years, the Power Supply and Crate Service at CERN has been responsible forthe maintenance tracking of power supplies and crates used by the CERN experiments. With thisexperience, and with the imminent introduction of a new generation of power supplies for theHL-LHC, the timing is ideal to conduct a statistical analysis to draw lessons from the past andmake recommendations for the future.
