 The ALICE PID performance in Run 1 and perspectives in view of Run 2 / Noferini, Francesco (INFN, Bologna ; Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome) /ALICE The extended capability in particle identification (PID) is one of the most characterizing features of the ALICE experiment. Several PID techniques are exploited in ALICE to cover a wide range of momenta based on specific energy loss (ITS, TPC), transition radiation (TRD), time of flight (TOF), Cherenkov radiation (HMPID), calorimetry (PHOS, EMCAL) measurements and topological PID. In Run 1 we explored extensively the combination of these techniques to improve particle separation in a statistical Bayesian approach or in a more traditional Nσ cut approach.
