Cosmic-ray studies using the ALICE detector at LHC / Sitta, Mario (INFN, Alessandria ; Piemonte Orientale U., Alessandria) /ALICE ALICE, a general purpose experiment designed to investigate nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN LHC, has also been used to detect atmospheric muons produced by cosmic-ray interactions in the atmosphere. In this contribution the analysis of the multiplicity distribution of the atmospheric muons detected by ALICE between 2010 and 2013 is presented, along with the comparison with Monte Carlo simulations. A MOdular System for Acquisition, Interface and Control (MOSAIC) of detectors and their related electronics for high energy physics experiment / De Robertis, G (INFN, Bari) ; Fanizzi, G (INFN, Bari) ; Loddo, F (INFN, Bari) ; Manzari, V (INFN, Bari) ; Rizzi, M (INFN, Bari) In this work the MOSAIC (“MOdular System for Acquisition, Interface and Control”) board, designed for the readout and testing of the pixel modules for the silicon tracker upgrade of the ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) experiment at teh CERN LHC, is described. It is based on an Artix7 Field Programmable Gate Array device by Xilinx and is compliant with the six unit “Versa Modular Eurocard” standard (6U-VME) for easy housing in a standard VMEbus crate from which it takes only power supplies and cooling.. 2018 - 4 p. - Published in : EPJ Web Conf. 174 (2018) 07002 Fulltext: PDF; In : 4th International Conference on Micro Pattern Gaseous Detectors - MPGD2015, Trieste, Italy, 12 - 15 Oct 2015, pp.07002

The upgrade of the ALICE Inner Tracking System / Ravasenga, Ivan (Turin Polytechnic ; INFN, Turin) /ALICE In 2021, for the third run of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), Pb-Pb collisions will be performed at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon of 5.5 TeV, with an integrated luminosity of $6 \times 10^{27}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ and at an unprecedented interaction rate up to 50 kHz. To fulfil the requirements of the ALICE physics program for Run 3, the ALICE experiment at LHC is planning a major upgrade during the Long Shutdown 2 of LHC in 2019-2020. Open heavy-flavour measurements in Pb-Pb collisions with ALICE at the LHC / Mischke, André (Utrecht U. (main)) /ALICE The ALICE experiment has measured charm and beauty production in Pb–Pb collisions at $\sqrt{S_{\rm{NN}}}= 2.76 \text{ TeV}$ and $5.02 \text{ TeV}$, via the reconstruction of hadronic D-meson decays and semi-leptonic Dand B-meson decays. In this contribution, an overview is given on current open heavy-flavour results from ALICE ranging from the nuclear modification factor to elliptic flow measurements and on the interpretation of the data by comparing with different model calculations of in-medium energy loss.. Characterization of the pixel module for the ALICE ITS upgrade / Barile, Francesco (INFN, Bari) /ALICE The ALICE Collaboration is preparing a major upgrade of the experimental apparatus, planned for installation in the second long LHC shutdown m the years 2019-2020. The key element of the ALICE upgrade is the construction of the new high resolution Inner Tracking System (ITS). Development of the pixel module for the upgrade of the ALICE Inner Tracking System / Fiorenza, Gabriele (Bari U. ; INFN, Bari) /ALICE Silicon pixel detectors are used as the inner tracking system in many High Energy Physics experiments providing precise tracking information in the regions close to the interaction point. The upgrade of the ALICE Inner Tracking System, to be installed during the second long shutdown of the CERN LHC, is one of the pillars of the ALICE upgrade programme.
